Designed by Raymond Stegeman, the Wayfarer design made its first appearance in 1952. Since he had procured dozens of patents for Bausch and Lomb, who is the parent company of Ray Ban, the Wayfarer designer glasses was released as Ray Ban wayfarer.
The designer glasses were a radical departure from the general metallic frames of that time. According to the design critic Stephen Bayley, the "distinctive trapezoidal frame spoke a non-verbal language that hinted at unstable dangerousness, bit one nicely tempered by the sturdy arms which, according to the advertising, gave the frames a masculine look." and they took advantage of the new plastic molding technology and soon became a popular designer frame.
Though Wayfarers enjoyed undisputed leadership in the 1950s and 1960s, sales slowly started to decline for these designer glasses. By the end of 1981, they were on the verge of discontinuation.
Ray Ban came up with a brilliant marketing ploy to reverse the fate of the Wayfarers. In 1982, they signed a $50,000 - a - year deal with Unique Product Placement of Burbank, California to place Ray-Bans in movies and television shows. Tom Cruise wore a Wayfarer in the 1983 movie Risky Business and 360,000 pairs were sold in that single year. The designer glasses also gained popularity among musicians notably Michael Jackson, Johnny Marr, Elvis Costello, Morrissey and the members of U2. Soon, Ray Ban started offering Wayfarer in more than 40 models,Replica Fashion Store, which is a far cry from the 2 models of 1981.
The popularity again started to fade away in the 1990s and in 2001, the Wayfarer underwent a significant redesign with its material of construction being changed from acetate to a lighter injected plastic.
The increasing use of Wayfarers among the celebrities and its vintage appeal has brought Wayfarers back to popularity. By the end of 2007, Wayfarers were available in Original Wayfarer, New Wayfarer and Wayfarer Folding Styles. It has again become a sought after style and many online stored for prescription and designer glasses have made sure to keep various models of this frame in their catalogue.
Officials at Washington D.C. schools have been dragging their feet when it comes to offering students information about preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. This issue simply wasn't considered to be a priority. Even though Washington D.C. schools have now stepped up and vowed to introduce the program soon, it is shocking that such an important issue was ever swept under the carpet.
Washington D.C. Schools Have a Duty to Provide Health Information
HIV/AIDS is a health issue, not a moral one. Washington D.C. schools may shy away from teaching standards of behavior in the sexual health realm, but issues like HIV/AIDS, other STDs, and pregnancy can all be addressed from a health perspective.
I've heard the argument that if we take the time to teach young people about these issues that it will "give them ideas" about becoming sexually active. Believe me; they have those ideas and desires already. What they may lack is the education to understand the consequences of their actions. Washington D.C. schools need to step up and provide young people with the information they need to make responsible choices.
Allow Washington D.C. Schools to Bring in Experts to Give Accurate Information
If the teaching staff of the Washington D.C. schools isn't qualified to discuss these issues with the students, then the schools have a responsibility to provide training to the educators or to bring in qualified individuals who can. This issue is far too important to ignore.
The choices that the students who are currently attending Washington D.C. schools make about their sexual health have the potential to affect the rest of their lives. We don't seem to have this much trouble discussing why drinking and driving,Cheap Designer Clothing, or using drugs is not a good choice with our young people; the issue of HIV/AIDS should be no different.
HIV/AIDS can affect anyone who is sexually active and the students attending Washington D.C. schools need to understand this. The message needs to be delivered directly,Online Shoes Sale, and not sugarcoated in any way. This is not something that only happens to other people. Let's teach the students from Washington D.C. schools how to protect themselves if they choose to become sexually active.
Once these students attending Washington D.C. schools have been given the facts, they may choose to delay becoming sexually active. If they don't, at least they have the knowledge they need to behave responsibly. HIV/AIDS is a fact of life in our world today. Not discussing it doesn't make it go away. Let's hope that the Washington D.C. schools get their education program implemented quickly. There's no time to lose.
